Episode Notes

52: Sher Jan Ahmadzai discusses Afghanistan

Sher Jan Ahmadzai, director of the Center for Afghanistan Studies at the University of Nebraska Omaha, joins us on the front porch. We were so excited to meet Sher Jan, an Afghan native, refugee, Presidential scheduler, and immigrant to America who is now giving back to his native country. Sher Jan shares with us how the murder of family members led to his harrowing escape to Pakistan. He tells us about his time as a Presidential scheduler and names some of the world leaders he met in that role. We hear about how all the money he saved up to go to college in the U.S. didn’t last long but how the former Center director was able to help him complete his studies and eventually succeed him as director. Sher Jan give us insights into current day Afghanistan, its people, the Taliban, and its challenges. This is a not-to-be-missed episode that brings Nadia Hashimi’s Sparks Like Stars to life!
