Linda and Nancy continue their discussion about Van Jones’ book Beyond the Messy Truth. In this episode we delve into the four policy areas Van suggests that liberals and conservatives can come together on solutions: 1) Criminal justice reform, 2) Address the addiction crisis, 3) High tech jobs, 4) Clean energy jobs. We discuss the “open letter” chapters Van addresses to the liberal and conservative parties. We like that no one will read this book and feel attacked. It is a balanced look at the flaws and strengths in both parties. Linda also enjoyed learning more about the experiences that shaped Van’s interest in policy. Inevitably, tears spring as we discuss the “Hallelujah anyway” response to tragedy in the Black church.
