Episode Notes

7: Where the Crawdads Sing

Linda “discovered” Where the Crawdads Sing when she asked her Facebook friends what book she should read next. At first, she wasn’t sure she would like the book as she read about Kya’s tragic early life. Soon enough, however, she got into the story and loved it and suggested it for the June Front Porch Book Club. Linda and Nancy talk about the importance of unconditional love that Kya found from Jumpin’ and Kya, the way nature taught her how to relate to others, how Tate opened the world to her but broke her heart, her choice to give up part of herself for a relationship, her decision to “eat the head of the praying mantis,” and her journey to healing. Linda puts on her counselor hat for a little bit to explain the concepts of victimization and survivorship to Nancy. We also learn that Linda should probably never be called for jury duty for a murder trial.
